The role of plastic surgeon in sleep-disordered breathing

Abstract

Sleep disordered breathing is a multilevel and multifactorial disease process associated with a risk of severe respiratory and cardiovascular disease, lower quality of life and social problem. We evaluate if there is a role for plastic surgeon in the therapy of snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome. Nasal surgery is useful for treatment of snoring patients with stuffiness preventing the development of apnoea disease and improves n-CPAP use in OSAS patients. Rhinologic and body contouring surgery plays also a role in multistep and multilevel treatment of OSAS and improve quality of life and mood of patients.
