Abstract
Twenty-five patients with a mean age of 63 years, previously selected for prostatectomy or TURP on clinical grounds alone, were analyzed by means of subjective parameters (AUA symptom index) and objective findings (the P/F graph developed by Schafer). Four patients had no outlet obstruction, 7 had a mild obstruction (class II), 12 a moderate obstruction (class III-IV), 2 a severe obstruction (class V-VI). After TURP, voiding balance was shifted to an optimal normal position only in those patients with proved obstruction. The difference in outflow conditions, with substantially unchanged detrusor strength before and after surgery, is demonstrated.
