Abstract
This chapter describes studies conducted on a population exposed to dioxin following an explosion at a chemical plant in Seveso, Italy. The available results failed to provide either fully comprehensive documentation of the effects of the accident on the exposed subjects, or conclusive evidence of the effects of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) on humans. The extension of the follow-up, along with the initiation of new studies, will help bridge the cap in knowledge about human toxicity of TCDD and long-term health impacts of the Seveso accident.
