32 Patients affected with chronic obliterating atherosclerotic arteriopathy of the inferior limbs were treated with L-acetylcarnitine. The authors affirm that the preparation, administered intravenously, is well tolerated; it provokes normalization of altered lipid levels in the blood by functioning as an antiarteriosclerotic-antiatheromatous agent; it causes a regression or attenuation of subjective and objective symptomatology in many cases; and, often improves the instrumental results of examinations of the peripheral circulation. They therefore believe that the drug, exerting a preventive as well as curative action, could constitute a valid defense in the treatment of obliterating atherosclerotic arteriopathy of the inferior limbs.
