Ovulation ultrasound monitoring has become an important approach in the increasing procedures devoted to. This becomes even more important when ovulation is pharmacologically induced. In the present paper, general guide-lines on the ultrasound monitoring of spontaneous or stimulated ovulatory cycles are described. The ultrasound-guided ovum pick-up is performed in the In Vitro Fertilization Embryo Tansfer (IVF-ET) and Gamete Intra Follapian Transfer (GIFT) Program of the University 'La Sapienza' of Rome. In the last 12 months 172 oocyte retrievals were performed and 37 pregnancies were achieved. The pregnancy rate was 21.5% per attempt. The ultrasounds role in this program is explained and discussed.
