Abstract

The long-term open-label study described is the Italian experience as a part of an ongoing international research aimed at evaluating topiramate's efficacy and tolerability in patients with uncontrolled epilepsy of any seizure type. 67 patients from 4 Italian centers were studied. The results indicate topiramate as an efficacious drug in a difficult and disomogeneous population of particulariy severe refractory patients. Medium dose used in the study is 300 mg topiramate per day; 8% of the patients was seizure-free; tolerability was generally good.
