Transcranial magnetic stimulation was performed in 8 epileptic patients before and after changes of antiepileptic regimen. The i.v. administration of diazepam as well as the chronic oral introduction of carbamazepine resulted in a significant increase of cortical threshold intensities. On the other hand the withdrawal of clobazam and the reduction of phenobarbital were accompanied by a decrease of cortical threshold intensities. Anticonvulsant medication exerts major effects on cortical threshold intensity.
