Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic stent (TIPS) has been proposed for the treatment of complication of portal hypertension, such as gastro-esophageal hemorrhage or ascites, when refractory to medical or endoscopic treatment. TIPS can be safety placed between portal and suprahepatic vein, operating percutaneously. Entusiastic preliminary results must be confirmed by prospectic controlled trials.
