Abstract

Our research aimed to the formulation of a diagnostic framing methodology allowing the organization of specific treatment programs, the verification of its effectiveness, the realization of a first partial application of such methodology, as well as the individuation of patients' subgroups with particular characteristics. After having reviewed the problems emerging from the literature concerning the evaluation of addicts, the Authors described the relevant population (255 alcohol addicts and 124 opioids addicts), the diagnosis that was utilized for the addiction, the methodology of diagnostic framing by life areas and the relative evaluation criteria, as well as the demographic variables taken into consideration. This research allows us to conclude that the aims have been partially achieved: the vital areas method represents a manageable tool, at an acceptable cost/benefit and it is useful in the clinical practice; on the contrary it seems unable to identify patients' subgroups with different treatment sensibility, while this aim is being now considered as priority in this field.
