Abstract

This study was aimed to trial the efficacy of the antiepileptic drug zonisamide in refractory epilepsy in children and adolescents. Ten patients from four to eighteen years old have been examined (seven boys and three girls) with severe refractory symptomatic epilepsy, generalized (seven children) or focal (three children), with many daily, monthly and annual seizures. The results, after the treatment with Zonisamide and follow-up of 6-12 months, have been very significant: three patients have become seizures-free, five patients have obtained a considerable reduction of seizures, one child has been non responder, and another child dropped-out.
