Abstract
On the basis of two years experience, the importance of the prostatic needle-biopsy according to Franzen is analyzed. Two groups of patients were studied: 212 patients with dubious prostatic pathology, and 60 with previously ascertained prostatic neoplasm who underwent different forms of therapy. In the first group, cytology permitted the diagnosis of 102 adenocarcinomas, 37 chronic prostatitis, 22 adenomas, and 51 normal prostates. The agreement between the cytologic findings and histologic data was 89.1%. In the patients of the second group, cytologic variations compatible with success of the therapies were shown.
