In a statistical survey of 172 cases of viral hepatitis, (80 of them being HB Ag positive and 92 HB Ag negative), a significantly more frequent incidence of higher values of the erythrocyte sedimentation rate was found in HB Ag negative patients than in HB Ag positive patients. However, due to a partial overlapping of data for the 2 series, and contrary to the previous reports of other authors, this difference may not prove suitable as a further aid to the absolute differentiation between the 2 forms solely on the grounds of the erythrocyte sedimentation rate.
