In 2008, with a large group of experts, we have written the first Italian guidelines of Kawasaki disease (KD). Since then, literature has been enriched by a large number of articles, even if there is no revolutionary innovations in the classification and criteria for diagnosis. Numerous studies have increased knowledges in genetic research and significant efforts have been done to identify categories of patients with high risk for complications, to use more aggressive treatment regimens, both in primary therapy and in treatment of resistant cases, i.e. after failure of the first infusion of high-dose intravenous immunoglobulin.
